When it was time for Cheryl to return to work after maternity leave in 2011, she faced the dilemma that many parents face – childcare costs were prohibitive and she found herself in a Catch 22 situation – she couldn’t afford not to work, yet she couldn’t afford to go to work. So, she decided not to return to her role as a digital consultant in the education sector. Instead, Cheryl took a leap of faith and, in August 2011, set up Wagada.
In those early days, it was a home-based SEO consultancy, based on Cheryl’s strong knowledge in this field. A review of the local market allowed Cheryl to identify a gap which she wanted to fill. She had strong ambitions for the company. Cheryl provided high quality SEO services to Hertfordshire SME businesses, but didn’t want to stop there.
At Wagada, we’re passionate about digital marketing and using our expert knowledge to help our clients grow and unlock their potential.
From its inception, Wagada has been seen by clients as true experts in the field of SEO. Since then, we’ve taken our capabilities to the next level, becoming a Google Partner in 2016.
Following requests from clients, Cheryl decided to broaden the range of marketing services that Wagada could offer. Since then, Cheryl has grown the team. Wagada took on skilled, experienced experts, with strong track records in marketing. We now offer the full range of digital marketing services, such as Google Ads, Content Marketing, Social Media and Email Marketing.
Clients had also been asking us to help them with their offline marketing activities too, such as event management, sales collateral and PR. Wagada now offer these services too.
In January 2014, following continuous growth, the business moved to offices in St Albans and took on more staff. We now have a team of 12 permanent staff covering SEO, copywriting, marketing, Google Ads and client management. In addition, we have a team of 16 freelancers based across the UK, from Hertfordshire to Yorkshire, from Oxfordshire to London. We even have a freelancer in Greece!
The Wagada team really are what makes us great! We have experts with extensive knowledge in all things SEO and digital marketing and we’re proud of the work we do for our clients. We aim to provide the very best account management and customer service as well as great digital marketing and SEO. We’re friendly, approachable and fun, always professional and put our clients’ needs at the heart of everything we do.
In her early career, Cheryl had seen first-hand that so many web designers and agencies failed to explain simple concepts and plans to clients, which caused frustration for clients which wasn’t necessary. She wanted Wagada to be different; transparent, credible, open and honest.
Wagada have worked hard to change people’s perception of SEO as a service. It is often known as the ‘dark art’ as people assume that SEO agencies use tricks and tools and other hocus pocus to improve search rankings.
At Wagada, we bring transparency to SEO and help clients to really understand the complexities of our task. Our techniques are designed to make Google see the value and quality of the website, rather than trying to trick the search engine. This has the dual purpose of improving the website’s ranking, as well as its’ conversion rate. Clients see an increase in website traffic and an upwards trend in sales.
As Hertfordshire’s Digital Marketing People, we love to be involved in the local business community. Whether its attending networking events, taking up guest speaker opportunities at business exhibitions, or getting involved with local community events.
We support local initiatives such as the Dragon’s Apprentice, the St Albans City & District Council Pancake Race and local business charity bake-off competitions and are part of various local networks such as St Albans District Chamber of Commerce, St Albans Businesses (SABs). None of this would be possible without the hard-working, dedicated and fun team in place at WagadaHQ.
